Installation Service

Choose between Professional Installed by FSDC Global or Self Install

Professionally installed by FSDC Global

Let us take the hassle, and simply arrange for your installation to be undertaken by FSDC Global’s teams of professional specialist installers. FENSA Registered Company 30316.

Our installation teams have experience in fitting 1000’s of bi-fold doors, windows and sliding doors over the years and are readily equipped to professionally complete an installation to the quality and high standards that you would expect. Our installers carry risk assessments, health and safety paperwork and applicable licenses ready for site.

Our professional installation option is best combined (but not compulsory) with the door and window site survey option as FSDC Global are not responsible for wrongly supplied measurements given directly by client themselves.

All our surveyors have undertaken NVQs to achieve Minimum Technical Competence (MTC) standards, and are members of a FENSA Registered Company.

FENSA is a government-authorised scheme that monitors building regulation compliance for replacement windows and doors.

What you can expect from our installation
  • One week after delivery on the agreed fitting date our installation team arrive on site to install the doors and windows
  • Professional and timely installation of your doors and windows
  • User guides (if applicable) left at the address
  • Weather sealant applied where possible
  • Supplied with a 25 year manufacturers warranty
  • Supplied with a 10 year product warranty

Choosing this option also increases your warranty to 25 years from the standard 10 years (which applies to supply only).

IMPORTANT NOTE: FENSA certificates can be issued if the opening that the door/window is going in too is unchanged and a like for like replacement. Example: a set of Bi-fold DOORS going in to replace an old set of French DOORS without any alterations to the opening is a FENSA certification. Equally, a set of Bi-fold DOORS going in to an opening that used to be a WINDOW that has been cut down (cut out & fill in scenarios) to ground level is also a FENSA certificate, just as long as you have not made the aperture any wider. For installations that do not come under this scenarios, remains a building control issue.

Self Installation

FSDC Global understand that some people gain great satisfaction in accomplishing a self-build, so if you are the type of person who has a hands on approach or who already has an installation team, then this is the choice for you.

As our bi-fold doors are unique to us, we have complied a series of step by step instructions which can be followed either online or by downloading, so that our bi-fold doors can be easily installed. We also have online video tutorials, and if you get stuck, just give us a call and one of our technical assistants will be more that willing to advise.

FENSA certificates can only be issued if the opening that the door/window is going in too is unchanged and a like for like replacement. So a set of Bi-fold DOORS going in to replace an old set of French DOORS without any alterations to the opening is a FENSA certification. However, a set of French DOORS going in to an opening that used to be a WINDOW but has been cut down to ground level, is not a FENSA certificate but is a building control issue.

Choosing the ‘supply only’ option gives you a 10 year warranty.

IMPORTANT NOTES: AS THE HOMEOWNER, IT IS YOU THAT IS ULTIMATELY RESPONSIBLE FOR ENSURING THAT ALL WORK CARRIED OUT IN YOUR HOME COMPLIES WITH THE REGULATIONS AND THE CORRECT CERTIFICATION IS AVAILABLE.

How to Comply with Replacement Doors & Windows

THERE ARE TWO WAYS TO COMPLY WITH CURRENT REGULATIONS. EITHER WAY YOU WILL NEED TO GET A CERTIFICATE TO PROVE THAT YOU HAVE COMPLIED.

Apply to your local council building control officer to get a certificate confirming that the installation has been completed within the regulations.

Get a competent person that has been registered to self-certify (under competent persons scheme like FENSA) to provide a certificate once they have completed the installation.

The instructions below refer to the installation of bi-fold doors, otherwise known as folding patio doors, accordion doors or folding patio doors:

  1. The bottom track is the most critical step. Ensure the track is fixed firm and level in both directions. For longer tracks you may require a laser level. Pre-drill the track 100mm from each end and then 500mm apart. The track port is positioned at the stacking side.
  2. The first jamb to fix is the one that the door is to stack open against. Ensure the jamb is fixed square on the track and level on both faces. This jamb must be firmly fixed to the wall to carry the weight of the door. Block work fixed jamb must be firmly strapped to ensure no side to side or rocking movement. We do not recommend positioning bifold doors to fit over the cavity
  3. Position the top track on top of the jamb and place the other jamb under the top track to hold it in place. If practically possible, do not fix the top track at this stage.
  4. Ensure the second jamb is fixed square on the track and level on both faces. This jamb must be firmly fixed to the wall to carry the weight of the door. Block work fixed jambs must be firmly strapped to ensure no side to side or rocking movement (Block work fixed jamb must be firmly strapped to ensure no side to side or rocking movement. We do not recommend positioning bifold doors to fit over the cavity.
  5. Ensure the top track is fixed firm and level in both directions. For longer tracks you may require a laser level. Pre-drill the track 100mm from each end and then 500mm apart. The track port is positioned at the stacking side.
  6. Remove the top and bottom hinges from the connecting edge of the 2nd and 3rd (and 4th & 5th if applicable) panel and attach them to the rollers. Set the rollers by winding the bottom Allen bolt to 32mm for the bottom roller and 35mm for the top. The measurement is taken from the top of the black carrier to the underside of the T on the roller.
  7. Insert all the rollers into the tracks. Ensure the hinge is positioned on the right side.
  8. Lift the first panel into position. We recommend that two persons lift the panels. For easy positioning, place timber on the floor so that the top of the timber is 8mm higher than the top of the bottom track. Lift the panel onto to timber. Locate the hinges and fix to the first jamb. Check the panel for parallel positioning and clearance with the tracks.
  9. Insert the half cylinder with the keys in. Rotate the keys to position the cylinder accurately into the lock. Insert the fixing bolt and tighten. Be careful not to over tighten the fixing bolt. Mark, pre-drill and screw on the cylinder cover.
  10. Insert the shorter square bar into the lock. The bar should project no more than 5mm from the face of the panel. Mark, pre-drill and screw on the handle with the lever facing down.
  11. Using the same method as the first panel, fix the second panel. Slide the top and bottom roller onto the panel, position and fix. Check the panel for parallel positioning and clearance with the tracks. Adjustment to the rollers may be required at this stage. Note: For 4, 5 and 6 panel door sets, repeat steps 8, 9, 10 and 11. For 2, 4, or 6 panels folding in one direction, a solid hinge is attached to the top and bottom roller of the last panel.
  12. Attach the swing panel.
  13. Insert the full cylinder with the keys in. Rotate the keys to position the cylinder accurately into the lock. Insert the fixing bolt and tighten. Be careful not to over tighten the fixing bolt. Mark, pre-drill and screw on the cylinder covers.
  14. Insert the longer square bar into the lock. The bar should project no more than 5mm from the face of the panel. Mark, pre-drill and screw on the handle with the lever facing horizontally.
  15. Open the door and lock the swing panel into the track. Slide the door closed so that it is positioned 50mm from the closing jamb. Using masking tape, mark the position of the bolts. Mark, pre-drill and screw on the keeps in accordance to your bolt markings.
  16. Cut to size and clip in the fixing covers into the jambs.
  17. Seal around the frame and remove the protective tape.
  18. Clip the drip caps into the slots on the outside of the panels.

Aperture Notes
  • The first thing to check is if the opening for the door is of a sound structure - to allow the bi-fold door to be installed correctly and safely.
  • The opening walls and floor must be constructed from structural timber, steel, brick, concrete or concrete block. Thermalite (or similar), cinder blocks or breeze blocks are not suitable to obtain a firm structural fixing.
  • The head of the opening must also be constructed from steel, structural timber or concrete.
  • Light metal lintels and timber sub-frames are not suitable to obtain a firm structural fixing.
The next step is to measure your opening

We recommend that you allow between 10mm (25/64 inch) to 20mm (25/32 inch) of tolerance between the opening structure and the door frame to allow ease of installation.

It is also advisable to use a large spirit level to check the opening, as an opening that is not level can effect your measurement. Note: Always use the smallest measurement.

Always include your chosen bottom track option in your measurements and remember to allow for floor finishes, tiles, carpet etc. Note: the frame height includes the bottom track.

Frame Width

Measure from wall to wall (side to side) of the prepared opening, then minus a tolerance of between 10-20mm or 25/64-25/32 inch in your measurement to allow for fitting tolerance.

Frame Height

Measured from the underside of the top support to the underside of the bottom track (top to bottom), then minus a tolerance of between 10-20mm or 25/64-25/32 inch in your measurement to allow for fitting tolerance.

Square Metre/Feet

Area of the door; width X height equals the Sq/Mt (Sq/Ft) of the door, weight is approximately 30kgs per Sq/Mt (6 psf) based on a double glazed standard unit.

Threshold

Note: the frame height includes the bottom track. We fit the flush track as standard, please allow for the 43mm (1 11/16in) profile depth if choosing this option

Inward or outward opening doors

Once you have your opening size you need to decide which direction you would like you door to fold and if you would like it to fold to the left or to the right or both.

Folding sliding doors are custom made to your measurements and can be up to 4000mm (4m / 13ft) high and 15000mm (15m / 30ft) wide (depending on which material you choose, please see system specification on the corresponding product page). The maximum panel width being 1000mm (39⅜”). Depending on the system you require.

Folding sliding doors are always viewed from the inside, so when ordering always give the opening direction of your door as you look at it from the inside.
