Glass Options

Our standards are high - We ONLY use quality glazing products that will enhance your chosen doors and windows

Add a touch of glass

An important choice to make when purchasing any fenestration product (door, slider or window) is what type of glass to put in them. Glass has a significant effect on the heat your property loses at night, the heat it gains during the day, the noise levels from outside and the overall aesthetics.

Glass can help determine the level of comfort, security and privacy in your home. We offer a huge selection of glass, each with its own unique thermal U-Value properties, some specific to your door choice, our sales team can readily advise.

Standard Double Glazed Units

As standard on all our door products we fit double glazed, argon filled, Low-E coated, Planitherm One toughened glass constructed 28mm/1⅛" units fitted with Super Spacer® Bars. Thats 4mm toughened glass to the outside, a 20mm cavity (Super Spacer®) and 4mm toughened Low-E glass to the inside.

Low-E (K) coating on the inside, gives the glass better thermal properties and allows most natural light to enter freely but reflects a significant portion of short-wave heat energy. In summer, long-wave heat energy radiating from objects is reflected back outside, lowering cooling cost. In winter, internal long wave heat energy is reflected back inside, lowering heating costs.

Toughened (or tempered) glass is a safety glass which is required on all doors (and windows which match certain criteria), which shatters into small pieces, is about 4 times stronger than standard glass, is resistance to thermal stress and impact resistance. Argon, has a 34% lower thermal conductivity than air.

Triple glazed units, low-e coated toughened glass

For increased thermal & acoustic properties, as well as increasing security, you can choose a triple glazed option (available in two unit depths 28mm and 32mm). Both use Planitherm ONE 4mm toughened glass outside, 8/10mm cavity, 4mm toughened Planitherm ONE, 8/10mm cavity and 4mm toughened Low-E glass on the inside, and include Argon+SS as standard.

  • Triple glazed as standard on the GG GlassIIEdge range
  • Available in 32mm units & 28mm units (AW73 & EW68 only)
  • Upgrade to Krypton gas filled 28mm units (AW73 & EW68 only)

Laminated Glass

Increase your security on vulnerable glazed areas. Laminated glass resists penetration – glass may break but the plastic inner layer retains overall integrity and continues to act as a barrier.

  • Protects against break-ins by preventing or slowing down burglary attempts
  • Withstands repeated blows from heavy objects such as bricks, hammers, crowbars and similar hand held heavy objects
  • Depending on the extent of the attack, the product remains integral and protects the premises adequately and limits penetration whilst awaiting replacement

Tinted Glass

Anti-sun tinting glass units available, ideal for areas directly facing the sun.

  • Colours available in grey, bronze, green and blue

Turtle Glass

Not a request for use in the UK (as yet) - but as we are a global company we have installed glazing all over the world - and installed many products using Turtle Glass.

Turtle glass is a special glass meant to protect marine sea turtles from hatching away from their natural habitat. In undeveloped coastal environments hatchling sea turtles are guided to move toward the water by the light of the moon. In developed environments it is known that artificial lighting will confuse the hatchlings and cause them to travel away from the water where they will likely perish.

Turtle glass is a glass with a Visible Light Transmittance of 45% or less in the wavelengths associated with the visible spectrum, (400 to 700 nanometers) - available in various colours, enquire for details.

Super Spacer® bars

Traditionally, insulating glass units used a metal double glazing spacer bar to separate the two panes of glass. Typically made from aluminium, these metal spacer bars were highly conductive and facilitated heat loss rather than preventing it, this process also contributed to condensation on the inside of the glass units.

FSDC Global use the Super Spacer® bar on all of its glazed units - Super Spacer® is a non-metal warm edge, pre-desiccated, structural foam spacer system which provides excellent perimeter insulation for sealed glazing units, and allows for expansion and contraction with heat differences (a major cause of fractures in conventional sealed units).

In short, Super Spacer® bars prevent temperature transfer and condensation on insulating glass units.

Krypton Gas

For increased thermal efficiency - Krypton gas is pumped into the glass units (between the panes of glass). Only available in the 28mm glazed units for AW73 and EW68 products only.

This inert, odourless, non-toxic gas is heavier and moves slower than air does, and having the gases in an enclosed space slows down or stops energy that travels through them.
